Ambassador Krol Donates Books to Vitebsk Library
Ambassador George Krol on April 13 donated a collection of English language teaching materials and other books about the U.S., valued at more than $1,000, to the Library of Foreign Literature in Vitebsk, Belarus. At the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Krol, speaking in Belarusian, expressed appreciation to the library's director, Larisa Arbuzova; Galina Danilova, Director of the City Public Library System; and librarian Yana Kuzina for their hard work in maintaining the library. He also cited the contributions of the Boston-based Sabre Foundation, which donated the books that began the library's collection. All "foreign" materials in the library's collection (about 12,000) are in English, comprising the largest English language collection in Vitebsk.
Ambassador Krol later met with members of the English Club, sponsored by the English Cultural Center, which works closely with the library and is located in the same building. Founded to promote mutual understanding between Belarus and English-speaking nations, the club now has over 250 members.
