Ambassador Krol Donates Materials to American Corner in Polotsk

U.S. Ambassador George Krol on June 21 donated over $20,000 worth of educational materials to the American Corner in the Central City Public Library named after Skorina in the northern Belarusian city of Polotsk. The U.S. donation included audio-visual equipment, electronic materials and print publications.

In remarks during the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Krol cited the historical role of Polotsk as a center of Belarusian education and culture. Attendees at the event included the library's director, Ms. Tatyana Saveleva; the mayor of Polotsk, Mr. Vladimir Tochilo; and about 30 thirty librarians, cultural leaders, and English teachers and students. The ambassador was greeted by Belarusian singers in traditional costumes and was given a tour of the library facilities and the newly opened children's library located nearby.
