Ambassador Krol Cuts Ribbon to Open Kosciuszko Museum in Belarus
On September 23 Ambassador George Krol traveled to the small town of Kosovo in the Brest region to join other diplomats and Belarusian officials for the official opening of the Thaddeusz Kosciuszko home and museum. The building was restored on the original foundation of Kosciuszko's home less than a year after the U.S. Embassy provided a $28,000 grant to help launch this project of high historical and cultural value.
In his remarks at the opening event, Ambassador Krol expressed his deep appreciation to "the talented craftsmen and workers who have by their hands brought back to Belarus and to the world community a monument to a man whose actions and beliefs continue to this day to encourage us." Ambassador Krol said the home is "a tangible symbol" of the "deep historical ties between the American and Belarusian peoples." Delivered in Belarusian, his remarks were warmly received by several hundred representatives of the local community who gathered to observe the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the home and museum honoring a great fighter for freedom and a hero of four nations: Belarus, Poland, the United States, and France.
