Embassy Sponsors Visit of Hip-Hop/Break Dance Group Havikoro

The U.S. Embassy in Minsk is proud to sponsor the visit to Belarus of the break-dance/hip-hop group “HaviKoro,” May 15-20, 2007. 

HaviKoro is a group of friends that chose to dance instead of take part in negative activities that existed in their neighborhoods. They started out as a Houston-based hip hop/house crew and have gained lots of experience in forms of dance such as break dancing, popping and funk.  The group brings a positive message to young people around the world through Break Dance, Rap and other forms of Hip Hop style.  They have shared the stage with artists and associations such as Destiny’s Child, Common, Limp Bizkit, Biz Markie, Coolio, Black Eyed Peas, Tre9, P.O.D., Geno V, Soulfruit, Tony Touch, Planet Funk, and sports teams such as The Houston Rockets and The Houston Comets. HaviKoro’s visit is being facilitated by the American not-for-profit organization American Voices, which is dedicated to the promotion of quality American music world wide. During their program in Belarus, HaviKoro’s four dancers and DJ will conduct master classes for dance students at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts and the Choreographic School in Borisov.  On May 18, the group will give a public performance in Minsk at the Youth Theater of Variety.  Belarusian groups Street Masters (break dance) and Vegas Dance (hip-hop), as well as students of the Choreography Chair, Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, will take part in the performance.  On May 19, HaviKoro will provide a master class for Belarusian hip-hop and break dancers at a local dance school in the Palace of Sports.  A major highlight of the group’s visit will be participation in The Fifth International Break Dance and Hip Hop Festival POWER OF2 as invited performers and judges.
