American Gospel Singer Performs in Mogilev
Dr. Horace Clarence Boyer of Amherst, Massachusetts, participated in the XIIIth International "Almighty God" Festival of Spiritual Music in Mogilev. For the second year in a row, the U. S. Embassy sponsored the participation of an American gospel singer in the festival. On May 27 Dr. Boyer was warmly received by an audience of more than 300 persons who attended his solo performance at the Mogilev Music School named after Rimsky-Korsakov. At the closing ceremony of the festival on May 28, the audience, with warm and sustained applause, encouraged Dr. Boyer to perform an encore. Dr. Boyer formerly served as Professor of Music Theory and African-American Music at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A leading specialist in African-American vocal music, he has published over 40 articles and served as adviser on gospel music to the "New Grove Dictionary of American Music."
